Christ Church Methodist, Addiscombe

According to the noticeboard outside the church, the official website is http://www.croydonmeth.org/christchurch/ (which also seems to appear as http://www.addiscombemeth.org.uk/). This actually seems to be at least a couple of years out of date but if that is what they want then so be it. They seem to have had a much better site that was hosted by Lycos but that is even more out of date.

Location

Christ Church Methodist, Addiscombe lies on the south side of Lower Addiscombe Road, just west of the junction with Canning Road.

History

The church was formed on 15th April 1979 from the combined congregations of the Addiscombe Methodist Church (the same building) and Cherry Orchard Methodist Church (still standing on the corner of Cherry Orchard Road and Leslie Grove but now used as offices).

The church building itself was dedicated on 2nd December 1950 and replaced a spired church opened in 1881 that was damaged in the Second World War and then destroyed by fire in 1948. A hall was added to the rear a few years later and the entrance lobby is a later addition along with some additional rooms so it actually looks very much different from the front compared to 1950.
