[Brickfields Meadow Doorstep Green (Fotopic).] <More photos>

Brickfields Meadow lies just over the borders from Addiscombe in Woodside. It seems to be unknown to many, with even people who have lived just a couple of hundred yards away for a decade knowing little of its existence apart from being vaguely aware of there being a lake there where people went fishing. There is indeed a lake there, but there are also areas of woodland, mature trees, mown grass and a novel children's play area and it seems very well kept (though the instances of graffiti seem to be increasing and really spoil it).

Location

Brickfields Meadow lies within the area bordered by Beckford Road, Davidson Road, Tennison Road, Birchanger Road and Woodside Green. The west side of that area is a 1990s built housing estate with the open space being on the east side with Dickensons Lane footpath running alongside it. As well as the entrances to the footpath on Tennison Road and Dickensons Lane (also the name of a road), there are several entrances from the housing estate. It is an open space and so there are no gates.

History

The site was formerly Handley's Brickworks which shut in 1974. Brickfield's Meadow was created in 1994 as planning gain associated with the new housing estate (Adams Way, Christie Drive etc).
