Crystal Palace Park on a site about Addiscombe? That's getting a bit silly isn't it? Well yes and no. The thing is that the parks in and around Addiscombe really aren't that special so if you want a sense of occasion you have to go a bit further afield. Crystal Palace Park is served by the 410 bus from the west side of Addiscombe and you can get there in half an hour so it really isn't that far.
Perhaps the key feature of Crystal Palace Park is the dinosaur lake, that is a lake populated with wildfowl that also has models of dinosaurs at one end of it. Also of particular interest is a children's zoo which is now part of Capel Manor College but remains free to enter and is open mornings and afternoons. Other attractions include a second lake, which is for fishing I believe, a not terribly good maze, a children's play area, a large field that was once the cricket pitch and a cafe. The centre of the park has the sports complex with the athletics stadium and pool which is a shame as they ruin the park. There is a concert bowl over on the north-west side of the park. The west side is where the Crystal Palace itself was but today all you can see are the remains of the terraces below the palace which are in not terribly brilliant condition and that whole area of the park needs a lot of attention.
